Fa la la on Main Street

When I was a little girl my family would drive downtown and look at decorations in the department store windows each Christmas.  Bob and I have kept the tradition alive. Last Saturday evening we drove downtown and were surprised and pleased to see the city bustling with activity. People dressed for parties were going into the hotels and restaurants. Some people were casually strolling in groups visiting and people watching. Others were walking their babies or dogs. It had the excitement and vibe of NYC. We had as much fun people watching as we did looking at the Neiman Marcus windows and the decorations on Main Street.

I remember a year when all was frozen (New Year’s Eve, I believe it was) and we walked around the square in front of the paper (Morning News building, I think) and went to Reunion Hotel to have dinner, but the gas lines were frozen or some such issue and the “menu” was very limited. Enjoyed the decorations, though!

Linda and I have many happy memories of celebrating with you and Claudia.
It was a very pleasant surprise to us to see the streets of downtown truly alive with happy acting people.

Wonderful post, wonderful photos, I certainly hope downtown is coming alive again. Thanks for the tour, one forgets as years go by. I was taken back to some wonderful memories of my own.
